The STEM Olympiad is the broadest of the five: mathematics and science for every grade from 1 to 12, and technology & engineering for the middle and upper grades. The questions start from real-life situations rather than textbook drills, so the exam rewards thinking as much as knowing.
How it runs
You sit a Qualification exam from home, on one of two dates, in a 24-hour window. Score enough and you move on to the Final; the strongest results from the Final open the door to the Best of the Best round and to the Grand Final, held in person.
Who can take part
Anyone in grades 1 to 12 — you register in the grade you are in this school year. There is no age limit. Schools can register whole classes and get a discount through the school form.
What you need
A computer with a camera, or the Olympiads app on a phone or tablet. The first rounds need one camera; the Best of the Best round needs two — your phone can be the second one. Our exam-day guide walks through the setup.
