Hi-Lingua is for students learning a language other than their own. You pick one or more of the four languages, and the level of the exam follows your grade group, so a grade 4 learner and a grade 10 learner are never measured with the same paper.
How it runs
The Semi-Final is a multiple-choice exam you sit from home, on either of two dates. The top ten in each grade group and language go to the Final: a speaking session over video and a short essay, with two cameras and on a laptop or desktop. Finalists are invited to the Grand Final, held in person.
Who can take part
Students in grades 3 to 11, in three grade groups. You register on your own — no school or teacher approval is needed — and you may not enter your native language. Schools can register groups at a discount.
What you need
For the Semi-Final, a computer with a camera or the Olympiads app. For the Final, a laptop or desktop with a second camera — your phone works as the second one. Our exam-day guide walks through the setup.
